Well the American food industry is finally doing a little something about the increasingly problematic condition of the health of those that eat the food. By bringing the “bad fat” or trans fat out into the open on every label, they hope to help people make a lot more health conscious choices.
Now, every product must display how much trans fat goes into each serving; experts hope that this statistic on the packaging will help people make smarter health choices for themselves, and their families, and thereby help reduce obesity rates.
Not sure if it will work, but it’s something, right? I’m just glad to see some initiative being taken, and something being at least attempted. So folks, do your own part, and start exercising, every day, at least a half hour a day. Please.

Any questions on How, or Why, have now been answered in the thing that a lot of people have always wondered…How exactly does eating unhealthy and high fat diets lead to diabetes?
Scientists in the article I just read cracked that code and break it down into a very sophisticated series of formulas. That is beside the point, the point is they’ve found out that a high-fat diet does in fact lead to diabetes by making insulin-making beta cells fail. This study is a good one because hopefully it can help to figure out new treatments.
Regardless, point remains don’t eat unhealthy. Unhealthy diets lead to unhealthy bodies. End of story.

I will spare you a long post with tons of details, but I do urge you to go read the article I just read; three new studies have released plenty of information, but a common theme flows between them all: Obesity is the cause of a lot of bad things.
Bad things like Blindness, poor colon cancer survival rates, and of course it’s partner in crime, diabetes. These studies are done by people a lot smarter than me, so go read their words about this scary subject.
Head over, check it out, then remember that the way to combat ALL these is daily exercise. Just get up and get moving, come check out Fit Express, go for a walk, whatever, just move.

You know things are bad when a state that used to be a beacon for better health starts taking a turn for the worse. Apparently, in the last 10 years, the number of diabetic people in Maine has doubled. Doubled. Now, almost 8% of all Maine adults have diabetes.
Jim Leonard, director of Maine’s Diabetes Prevention and Control Program, said it perfectly, “This is a much bigger deal than people realize, Diabetes does not have a cure.”
The sad thing is, Maine isn’t alone, in the last 10 years, 23 states, yes, 23, almost half, have Doubled their diabetes rates. Folks, this diabetes increase is just the tip of a very deep iceberg…it is the obesity rates that are pushing the diabetes rates, the CVD rates up. In the last 30 years, obesity rates in children have QUADRUPLED.

Why aren’t your kids exercising more? Why don’t they get excited to do it? Why is doing it more like a chore, and less like a game? Well, studies are showing, it’s probably our fault.
Why, you ask? We’re not motivating them to do it. Children, lets face it, are very impressionable, and if they get their cues about how to feel about exercise from us, and we aren’t enthusiastic about it, they won’t be either. The easiest way to get them involved, and KEEP them involved is to make it fun, and always be encouraging.
Invest in bikes, go for long walks, play sports with them, just be involved, and stay active. Start young and they’ll adopt the habits to keep themselves healthy for the rest of their lives!

Today, compared with say, the 1970’s, toys that kids can receive for Christmas, birthday’s, or whatever other holiday’s you get gifts on, do not promote activity, well, at all.
With a few exceptions, today’s high tech gifts lead to children doing a lot of high tech sitting around. Instead of playing outside, they play a video game that takes place outside; instead of exercising, they watch movies on their iPod or have online karate matches with kids from Taiwan. According to new reports slowly surfacing, it is exactly this that is helping to contribute to the childhood obesity epidemic.
When thousands of P.E. Teachers were polled, 85% of them said children were not Near as fit as they should be, and a major factor wasn’t diet control, it was toys, followed by parents. In this world of DVD, iPod, XBox and PS3, make sure your kids get old fashioned exercise. 30 minutes a day at least, and heck, do it with them!

I just found a cool little article I think everyone should read; it’s about how to get More energy on a day to day basis so you’re not always feeling fatigued and just plain tired.

Well there’s an eye opener…obesity in men has shown to lead to an extremely increased risk of tumor reoccurence. Wow.
Apparently urologists are finding that while linking obesity to prostate cancer is “controversial” the evidence they are finding by looking at studies is showing that the disease is Much more prominent in obese men. When they analyzed it further, they also found that the obese patients showed a significantly higher rate of reoccurence after the disease was treated if they were obese before, during, or after the procedure.
Well I don’t know about you, but that’s reason enough for me to stay healthy. Any advantage against cancer I can get, I will happily take, no matter how “controversial” the evidence is.
